Uniden WHAMx4 wireless VHF mics

UnidenWHAMx4BKI actually think that the most important innovations in marine networking are happening over wires — Ethernet and NMEA 2000 wires — but some of the wireless happenings certainly are, er, sexy. I tested Uniden’s first WHAM wireless mic and, while it worked OK, the screen was hard to read and the overall build quality didn’t impress. Now I’ve seen a prototype of the second generation WHAM and it is a whole new animal. Not only does the screen look very readable, but it now has greater range and function. It seems possible that you’ll be able to wander anywhere on a boat, and maybe a ways down the docks, easily carrying full power (25W) VHF and intercom capabilities. I’m supposedly on the list to try a couple of WHAMs, along with the interesting UM625c (for color) fixed radio, soon

Hey, can I keep this on my belt and use it at home as a third remote with my uniden 2.4GHz dual handset – Just a thought – Looks real sexy
    Ben (another one)

In the US at least the use of VHF handhelds is forbidden on shore.
Now this unit is connected to a VHF but the VHF is on the boat. The actual Wham mic is on some UHF frequency.
I wonder if this would be legal when used around the dock ?

Hmm, Ben it looks like we’ve got a blog spammer in our midst.

You’re quite right, and you should see how much spam the filtration system catches. But no worries; once the transrectal ultrasonically guided spammer probe is out of beta, these guys will experience some very painful behavior modification.
