Has anyone had any experience or anything to offer re the Webwhip? I'm attempting to get one working and have to say that there is little literature or other information available other than the somewhat ineffective manual. Any comments will be useful.

Thanks! Rich.

Hi Rich, I found the manual at Shakespeare's WebWhip site and the setup is familiar from other WiFi bridges I've tried. Where are you having trouble? Are you trying to connect it to a computer or to a router? Have you been able to use "192.168.1.20" to browse to the WebWhip's setup pages (see page 6)?

Rich,

The WebWhip is a rebranded Ubiquiti Titanium Bullet.  It uses the Ubiquiti AirOS interface.  I did a comparison of the user interfaces of several products including the Ubiquiti Bullets.  Take a look there and see if those screenshots of the process are helpful.  If you're still having issues let me know where you've made it and where you're stuck.  I'd be happy to work through any issues with you.

Hi Ben,

New member here, hopeful you are able to help. We have the webwhip 2web and are unable to connect to 192.168.1.20 - it cannot find the address.

Here is what we’ve done:

Tested router

Tested ethernet connection

Tested power supply

Reset the unit (twice) as instructed by the document shared a few posts ago and tried the DCHP settings as instructed.

Using a MacBook Pro running Catalina with a USB ethernet adapter that works fine with the router. Live connections are showing in the Network Preferences when connected to either the router, or the WW directly.

Have tried both chrome and safari.

192.168.1.20 cannot be found. There is another WW at our marina, using 192.168.1.25

We are at a loss for next steps - grateful for advice you or any other members can offer.

Hi Angelique and James,

When you're connected to the WW directly, can you look at network preferences on your Mac? I'm hoping you can tell me the IP of your computer and the IP of the router.

@ben-stein I am connected directly to the WW, so no router in between. My macbook network settings are for wifi off, and a manually configured DHCP of 192.168.1.200 - no router IP is listed.

note that macbook does not have an ethernet port so I am using a usb to ethernet adapter that seems to be able to talk to the router just fine (when the router is hooked up). The network control panel is also giving me a geeenlight on the ethernet connection.

Angelique & James,

I don't have a Webwhip, but I do have a Ubiquiti Bullet - are you connecting with https (vs. http)?  For some reason they want that secure connection.

I don't understand "...a manually configured DHCP of 192.168.1.200.." - if you have DHCP turned on, then you won't be setting your IP address manually.  In Windows, this is the "Set the IP address automatically" check box.  If you uncheck it, you would enter your manual address of 192.168.1.200.  I assume Mac has something similar?

Is it possible your Mac is unaware of the ethernet connection?  I don't know anything about Macs, but I have noted that my Windoze laptop sometimes fails to pick up on stuff connected via USB 🙂

Thank you for the reply Hartley. We were able to get it going with some help, and using a PC.

I will file away the http vs https for future reference - that’s a good one!
