Great article, Thanks for the insight.
Defiantly the best dials on the market, I love the way they look and work. Had a really good play with them at the southampton boat show. i even like the i50 & i60.
Have not installed them myself yet, but its a job for the winter when the boat gets lifted out for winter!

I had a chance to see both the i70 and the B &G Triton in Newport. Tipping point for me may be the ability to integrate my existing legacy sensors. Any idea if the ITC5 will work with older non Ray analog sensors?

Wow… only three months after I did my installation. I love the new i & p70s, the only issue is that you can’t even dream of getting your ST70s to work properly to feed ST1 data to your existing ST60/80s (CH wind, Trim). I ended using a ST-NG to ST1 converter in the loop. FLIR is doing a great job with the i50/i60 range I will be able to punt those ST-60/80s soon. They just need a few more software iterations and we’ll be off to the races.
Only other thing I don’t like are that the screws and older gelcoat don’t get along well.
Does anyone know when the A65/67 is coming out… that will solve my last problem… an instrument sized N2K (ST-NG) chart plotter for my navpod.

Old or new gelcoat should not be a problem for screws if you predrill a correct size hole and…countersink the gelcoat so the screw threads do not touch the gelcoat, only the fibreglass.

    Thanks Peter… I shouldn’t be that lazy!
As for the older sensors… need to check the Airmar specifications and possibly ask if they have similar outputs.

Hi Dan: I’m thinking of updating to P70 and I70’s and have a question.
I have an S3G autopilot similar to yours.
Is the A06046 cable bridging data between the ST1 and STNG networks in your system ?
Where are your transucers ? ST1 or STNG ?
    Thanks.

JDM. Such a cable as the A06046 does not bridge data between dissimilar network protocols.
On my boat, a classic Raymarine e-series chart plotter, circa 2005, translates from seatalk to NTNG and back.
I have a mix of transducers, seatalk and NTNG (solid state compass & wind).
Panbo has a neat Forum section where you can post questions like, “I have this, how do I do that”. Post your question over there, and you can get some suggestions to accomplish what you need instead of the cable you mentioned. I will be on the lookout for it.

Just a thought – that if you are concerned about theft, then don’t use self tapping screws to mount the i70. Anyone could just pop off the bezel, unscrew your units and be off with them in a matter of seconds, surely?

Raymarine has a new generation i70. I was just recommending this to a friend and noticed the new display with the following improvements
    * New appearance, glass goes to the edges
    * Wild increase in brightness for about the same amount of power, going from 700 to 1200 cd/m2, for a change in power spec from 1.6 watts to 1.7 watts (presumably at the same brightness as the original i70 you would have an energy decrease to something below 1.2 watts)
    * Waterproofing is moved to the next higher standard (not relevant for most people)
    * Looks like daisy chaining is no more, just one ng port instead of two. (I recall nmea standard is not in favor of daisy chaining, guess this brings it into line)

Thanks, Dan. I have not seen the new i70s in action yet, but did note the big brightness increase here:

    Hello
Can the Raymarine ST50 wind vane and Raymarine P70 autopilot be connected to a Raymarine C80 chartplotter. The windvane will display the speed and direction on the P70b screen. Can the 2 systems be made to communicate?
    Thanks
    Dave
