Autopilot Solenoids/valves

Vote 0 Votes

Im inquiring if anyone has ever used "Proportional" type Valve on a hydraulic steering system.

Traditional Solenoids are "on/off"

This would allow the pilot to move the rudder at the speed it requires to adjust with sea conditions..

SIMRAD does make a drive computer to do this which is a AD80

My question is if anyone knows what type of proportional valve I require?

Far from being an expert, but having spent many hours diagnosing my Simrad AP - I believe the solenoid valve is indeed on/off - but that serves to engage or disengage the AP. The speed of the rudder movement I thought was dictated by the speed of the pump, which gets set during the commissioning process.
