Its a crowded marketplace out there, and not much room for a newcomer to compete on features. There IS room for some price competition!

The more I see of Geonav, the better Simrad looks.
    Sorry…
    NMEA 2000 isn’t exactly a new concept.
Also, that G12 has has such wide bezels (why?) that the screen itself is dwarfed…almost a retro-look.
I really like the DualFuel concept, however, since Jeppeson and Navionics support different areas better or worse, so that’s a win/win feature for both manufacturer and consumer…I hope to see that spread to all MFD manufacturers…I’m a little surprised that Navionics would permit cross-platform compatibility, however, knowing how they are.

Thanks for posting the Geonav info… looks promising! Regarding the DualFuel function – I seem to recall Raymarine touting a future software update that combined cMap and Navionics on their E series widescreen (when it first came out), but I haven’t seen any mention of it since then. Do you know what happened?

Just to follow up on my last comment – the press release that stated this dual cartography capability on the E series wide seems to be missing off the Raymarine US site, but here it is on a different Raymarine site… http://bit.ly/jJtdQ5

Yes, the E-Wide were originally slated to support C-Map 4D as well as Navionics Platinum+, as I wrote here: http://goo.gl/IBm6H
But the feature was delayed almost immediately — http://goo.gl/ccmEx — and then it seemed to fall off the table altogether. My sense is that they found out that the Ray operating system and/or E Wide processor couldn’t handle the task as easily or well as presumed. But don’t think Raymarine is stalled. As I twittered last week, I just got a new Ray product preview that was very interesting (but which I can’t detail at all).
